Inspired by: Abstract Florals

Hi guys, you know from my other posts how much I LOVE watercolour on cards so this watercolour blog hop by pretty pink posh is SO right up my alley, I'm so excited to take part in it. It's my first blog hop, I didn't even know there were blog hops that are open to anyone! I'm weirdly excited by that :)

So this card is actually inspired by the technique in this Sandy Allnock video & partly by this giftbag that one of my birthday presents came in :) I LOVED the way all the abstract watercolour shapes became something recognisable & the way it was done on the giftbag (by doodling gold flower-ish shapes over the top) was something even I thought I could manage :)

That's not so say it turns out perfect for every flower. I love the top three & the random doodly ones in the pastel-y area but the yellow one didn't work out so well for me :)

The technique is really easy, I took a sheet of Distress watercolour cardstock & cut 1cm off the long side so that it looked better on an English A6 size card. Then I basically messed around with my Peerless Watercolours & two sizes of waterbrush. For the more 'pastel' areas I dabbed most of the paint I picked up from the peerless watercolour sheet onto a piece of kitchen roll & then scribbled what was left of the colour onto the page.

Once it was dry I took my Pilot Super Colour Gold Extra Fine marker to doodle the flowers. The banner & sentiment are from the Avery Elle 'More Stories' stamp set, stamped with versafine ink on more Distress Watercolour Cardstock, coloured with peerless watercolour & then fussy cut (there are dies for this set, mine just haven't arrived yet ^^) & adhered with foam tape.
Then it was a simple case of sticking it to an A6 card made of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock & wrapping a little gold metallic thread round the front of the card :)

Did I mention that this is my favourite of all the cards I've ever made? It made me feel like I'm almost artistic ^^ Plus I got to use some of the new crafty bits I treated myself to for my birthday :)
Have you been inspired by anything random recently?
